The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee today passed legislation – S. 3984, the Museum and Library Services Act of 2010 – to reauthorize the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
The bipartisan bill includes several provisions proposed by the museum field, including enhanced support for conservation and preservation, emergency preparedness and response, and building statewide capacity. The bill specifically supports efforts at the State level to leverage museum resources, including statewide needs assessments and the development of State plans to improve and maximize museum services through the State.
“This is a huge step forward for our field,” said AAM President Ford W. Bell. “It is a testament to what we can accomplish when we work together. We must continue to build on this momentum by contacting our Senators NOW and asking for their vote on the Senate floor.”
