The debate about what a museum should be

These days there’s a growing divide between people who think museums should be more open, inclusive, and participatory, and those who think that such market-driven approaches mean a loss of control and quality.

Hot-button words like “elitist” and “populist” are flying around like shrapnel. A recent article in The Wall Street Journal sums it up in the name: No More ‘Cathedrals of Culture’

This is a pretty fundamental debate about the role of the museum in society.  Where do you stand?
